Set Design Portfolio
Examples of environment and set designs I have done for business and theatre.
Set piece design of a specialized vampire crypt for the WildClaw Theatre production of Carmilla at the DCASE Storefront Theatre in Chicago.
The Revenants Set Design
The set model to scale for The Revenants. We used this to determine how the distressed wall which collapses at the beginning of the show will affect the lighting and movement for the remainder of the play.
We used the set model to work out the many lighting changes required to show the passing of time during The Revenants.
Carmilla Vampire Crypt Design
This set piece had to serve as a table, bench, bed, and crypt during the play. It's 7' x 3' top had nowhere to go when the lid was removed. To solve that I created a split lid.
The actor entered the scene hidden from below, pushing the two lids up and out. I still had to find a place for the lids that did not interrupt scene by having to place them somewhere nor have them in the way on top of the platform.
The two parts of the lid were designed to slide down channels along the side of the crypt to securely get them out of the way for the rest of the play. This required two people below moving control systems to bring them down smoothly. Worked every night!
Nightclub Stage Design
Foamcore scale model of the space and the stage used to determine audience size, sight lines, band accessibility, and crowd movement patterns to the bar.
The bar along the back wall of the nightclub had a custom design that incorporated three classic guitars shapes inlaid onto the surface.
The Dreams In The Witch House Set Design
In the foam care scale model I had a raised floor that was later produced by an optical illusion in paint to save time and money.
The Witch House set required several entrances and working special effects built into the walls of the set.
